True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin is one of the greatest and most celebrated books ever written about Our Lady. Praised by popes, mystics and theologians, this profound and powerful book presents Mary as the essential and infallible key to the heart of Jesus. Nowhere will you find a deeper and more life-changing book on that quintessentially Catholic doctrine: the role of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the life of the Christian and the life of the Church.
Unpublished during the saint’s life time, it has enjoyed the endorsement of the many outstanding popes the Church has been blessed with since its discovery in 1842. John Paul II, in particular, was its tireless champion, crediting True Devotion with a turning-point in his spiritual life, adopting his motto, Totus tuus, from St. Louis.
The key to De Montfort’s Marian spirituality is that he considered Our Lady to be the infallible and chosen gate to the heart of Christ – To Jesus through Mary: it is Christ Himself Who is at the centre of True Devotion.

Saint Louis-Marie Grignion de Montfort (31 January 1673 28 April 1716) was a French Roman Catholic priest and Confessor. He was known in his time as a preacher and was made a missionary apostolic by Pope Clement XI. As well as preaching, Montfort found time to write a number of books which went on to become classic Catholic titles and influenced several popes. Montfort is known for his particular devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the practice of consistently praying the Rosary. Montfort is considered as one of the early Marian proponents of the field of Mariology as it is known today, and a viable candidate to become a Doctor of the Church. His most notable works regarding Marian devotions are contained in The Secret of Mary and the True Devotion to Mary. The Roman Catholic Church, under the pontificate of Pope Pius XII canonized Montfort on July 20, 1947. A “founders statue” created by Giacomo Parisini is currently placed at the upper niche of the south nave of Saint Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican. The paper consists of St. Louis Marie de Montfort. For some, “The Love of Eternal Wisdom” is believed to be the key to the whole thought of the saint. St. Louis Marie de Montfort saint describes how you can achieve spiritual union with Jesus Christ.

God Alone: The Collected Writings of St. Louis Marie De Montfort

The writings of St. Louis Marie de Montfort are of great interest today for many reasons. First, because they are centered on Christ, Eternal and Incarnate Wisdom. Second, because they focus attention on the importance of Mary’s role in the Mystery of Christ and of the Church-a subject of renewed interest both within the Catholic Church and other Christian churches. Third, because they embody a form of “Marian Spirituality” that goes far beyond mere Marian devotion, as Pope John Paul II pointed out in his Marian Year encyclical: St. Louis Marie de Montfort “proposes consecration to Christ through the hands of Mary, as an effective means for Christians to live faithfully their baptismal commitments.” Fourth, because they reflect the thinking and pastoral experiences of a man of vision whose writings have a definite prophetic ring relative to the latter times. They likewise reflect his unusually profound understanding of the Scriptures concerning Christ, Eternal and Incarnate Wisdom, as well as his own personal discovery of Mary, the “easy, short, perfect and sure way” to obtain full possession of Divine Wisdom in our souls. In a sense, we can say that his writings have revolutionized the whole concept of true devotion to Mary by presenting it as a way of life… This is the softcover edition. The hardcover is now out of print.

Characteristics Of True Devotion To The Blessed Virgin Mary

Characteristics Of True Devotion To The Blessed Virgin Mary

Saint Louis Marie de Montfort highlights the characteristics of true and false devotions to the Blessed Virgin Mary In his book True Devotion to Mary.

Below are the five characteristics of true devotion to Mary

image

1. Interior:
True devotion to Our Lady is interior; that is, it comes from the mind and the heart. It flows from the esteem we have for her, the high idea we have formed of her greatness, and the love which we have for her.

2. Tender:
That is, full of confidence in her, like a child’s confidence in his loving mother. This confidence makes the soul have recourse to her in all its bodily and mental necessities, with much simplicity, trust and tenderness.

It implores the aid of its good Mother at all times, in all places and above all things: in its doubts, that it may be enlightened; in its wanderings, that it may be brought into the right path; in its temptations, that it may be supported; in its weaknesses, that it may be strengthened; it its falls, that it may be lifted up; in its discouragements, that it may be cheered; in its scruples, that they may be taken away; in the crosses, toils and disappointments of life, that it may be consoled under them.

Immaculate Heart of Mary

Quotes from True Devotion to Mary.

• The world was unworthy, says St. Augustine, to receive the Son of God directly from the Father’s hands. He gave Him to Mary in order that the world might receive Him through her.

• 18. Just as Isaac of old was offered by Abraham’s consent to the will of God, it is she who nourished Him, supported Him, brought Him up and then sacrificed Him for us.

• 18. Christ gave more glory to God the Father by submission to His Mother during those thirty years than He would have given Him in converting the whole world by the working of the most stupendous miracles. Oh how highly we glorify God when, to please Him, we submit ourselves, to Mary, after the example of Jesus Christ, our sole Exemplar.

Who Was Saint Louis De Montfort? By Dick Sohm

Who Was Saint Louis De Montfort? By Dick Sohm

Saint Louis de Montfort is one of Our Lady’s greatest apostles. Pope John Paul II came to this understanding while he was a student in the seminary.

He was having difficulty with the issue of devotion to Our Lady, perhaps fearful that devotion to Mary would in some way take attention away from devotion and consecration to Jesus.

Then Pope John Paul II read Saint Louis de Montfort’s very popular and compelling book, True Devotion to Mary. His conversion experience was so powerful that he spent his pontificate speaking about Marian Spirituality, culminating in his greatest legacy to Catholics: The Luminous Mysteries or the Mysteries of Light, in which he detailed five new mysteries of the Rosary.

One hundred years from now, The Luminous Mysteries will almost certainly be viewed as the crowning achievement of his pontificate.
