Saint Teresa of Ávila (1515-1582) – Spanish mystic, writer and reformer of the Carmelite order.

O God, who through your Spirit raised up Saint Teresa of Jesus to show the Church the way to seek perfection, grant that we may always be nourished by the food of her heavenly teaching and fired with longing for true holiness. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
St. Teresa of Avila was an influential and pivotal figure of her generation.
St. Teresa born (Teresa de Cepeda y Ahumada) on 28th March 1515 in Avila, Spain. Her parents were both pious Catholics and in some ways inspired their daughter to take up a life of prayer. As a young child Teresa showed signs of a deeply religious nature; she would often retreat into silence for prayer and would enjoy giving alms to the poor. She was very close to her Mother, who provided a warm counterbalance, to the strictness of her father.

Sister Cecilia Maria 43, a young Argentine nun who recently died of cancer had her pictures going viral on the Internet as she was pictured smiling in death.

Sister Cecilia Maria lived in Sts. Teresa and Joseph Monastery in Santa Fe, Argentina, where she was dedicated to prayer and the contemplative life.

She passed away early on June 22 at the age of 43.

After graduating as a nurse at 26 years old Sister Cecilia Maria made her first vows as a discalced Carmelite. In 2003, she made her final profession. Six months ago, she was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue, and the disease metastasized into her lungs.
